Bofors 7.5 cm AA gun m/30 and 8 cm AA gun m/29

By the mid-1920s, the hastily built anti-aircraft guns developed during World War II were completely obsolete as a result of the rapid development that had taken place in aviation. Modern aircraft far surpassed their predecessors in both speed and altitude, rendering the anti-aircraft guns built against them ineffective in one fell swoop. In many parts of the world it was recognized that it was time to replace anti-aircraft guns based on old principles with new, more powerful ones. In 1925, the German company Krupp acquired a significant stake in Bofors in Sweden, which allowed them to use the knowledge accumulated up to that point to bypass the peace restrictions that weighed on them, to develop modern guns. At the same time, the Swedes were able to become major arms exporters by acquiring modern technology.

The development of the new anti-aircraft gun was secretly financed by the German Reichswehr. The Swedish-German engineering team made prototypes of several 7.5 cm guns. However, the client was dissatisfied with the end result and the Germans considered it desirable to increase the calibers, which happened later. These guns formed the basis for the development of the 8.8 cm Flak 18/36/37/41, the most famous anti-aircraft gun of the Second World War, which is thus closely related to the Swedish anti-aircraft gun.
